When I was younger, and too young to understand what HD was my Grandma from my dads side was diagnosed with it, and eventually passed away. I am now 18 years old and my dad was just recently diagnosed with HD. Now that I am older I took the time to look up and understand what HD was and how it affected someone. I find it a really hard thing to deal with since my dad and I are so close, and he just isn't the same person he used to be. He used to body build and work full time.. and now he can't even work. Seeing my dad like that really brings me down, but i will always love him and nothing will change that.
Apparently the HD gene has been passed down in my family for quite some time. However, there is no records of anyone in my family older than my grandma's generation of ever having it. Confused? .. My great grandmother was diagnosed with MS and eventually had passed away from it. Although, it is now to our knowledge that she actually passed away from HD. It had just not yet been discovered.
QUESTION:
I am a twin to my wonderful sister named Amy. After further research on HD , it is to my knowledge that a child of someone with HD has a 50% chance of carrying the gene. So what does that mean if I am a twin?
