benefit to knowing earlier

posted 7 months ago by nadahe

I was wondering if there is any benefit in knowing if you're positive/negative early in life or if i can wait 5 years or so.  I dont usually think about it on the average day, but every once in a while it pops in my head. i'm scared to know because i'm scared that i will test positive. I just turned 22 and my mom is 46 and is in the secondary stage.  I'm just wondering if 5 years will make a difference if i do have it. Is there anything that can be done in those 5 years to better my prognosis if i do test positive??

I know there are supplements you can take that the earlier taken, the greater chance that they could benefit you. This is for neuroprotection and possible delay of onset later on. (trelahose, which is a natural sugar supplement, omega 3, coQ10, etc...) Also, exercise, particularly ones involving your leg muscles like cardio has shown in europe to help delay onset, I think. If you wait 5 years I don't know that it will make a difference or not. I would ask a HD doc/specialist, cause that's a good question. The good thing is that whether you test now or later, you can do things now to live a healthy lifestyle, taking the supplements (especially trelahose-ask me if you need to know where to get it as it is a sugar ordered online. Our HD doc really recommends it) so that it would hopefully delay onset/progression.

Thanks for your answer! I talked to my mom's specialist on Monday and she said pretty much the same thing... exercise, vitamins, a well balanced diet
