Tell us about your experience with/connection to Huntingtons Disease
“My father and brother both died of HD. For 6 years I was involved in the PHAROS study done at Emory in ATL. Due to some poor performances/reviews at work I was nearly fired at work. I asked my daughter Erin if I was being inflicted and she said yes....”

jennyI wish I could get the hang of all these initials that you Yanks use for everything! An STD in Australia is a Sexually Transmitted Disease!!! (or a long distance phone call!) It's dreadful that they force you to jump through hoops just to get an entitlement. A symptomatic diagnosis of HD (from a neorologist) should be enough to just issue you with a disability support pension for life. That's how it works in Australia. The carers have a harder time though. The patient has to fulfill certain medical criteria before they will give anyone a carer's a pension. But I guess that is fair enough. My husband is not disabled enough for me to qualify at present. But as time goes by I will qualify down the track. In the meantime they have an allowance that gives you an extra $100 a fortnight to help with expenses and they also give you some concessions. So I am very grateful for what I get now...because we own our home, we can manage quite well. Hope all goes well in the future for you Tom. Cheers from Down Under, jenny

jennyHi Tom, just dropping by to say g'day from Down Under. I see from your thought bubble that you are grateful to still have your job. I hope you get to keep it for some time yet. My husband was forced to give up work at 57. I thought he would fall apart, but he was actually relieved that the stress was taken away. He wasn't coping and didn't tell me he was finding it so tough. Hopefully you'll know when it's time.... when you feel that it's causing you too much stress and using up way too much mental energy. All the best to you. jenny
