WeAreHD.org - The Social Support Network for People Living with Huntington's Disease

My experience with HD is through self education starting around 1990.  I started by research and then designing and running a HD blog website for a couple of years.  I also joined an on line HD support group.  Most of the information at this time was very vague because there was no testing or money for the research of HD.  I posted our experiences as we went through the testing and follow up and how it effected us as a family.  I hope to re-edit our blog and post here soon updating the current status of our HD life.     

  I'm a retired Army Warrant Officer.  I have around 168 hours of college education which I have never turned into a degree.  I have so many interest in so many different fields that I have jumped around to support my military educational requirements.  Now that I'm retired I hope to complete my college education.  I served mostly as an Army engineer and as a maintenance supervisor for repairs of heavy construction equipment. 

My wife attended Phillips High School in Birmingham, Alamama.  She completed her High School education.  She attained the position of Manager in Tuperware and was very sucessful.    She received her training in Respatory Thepary and attained a registration as regestered respatory theparist. 

Wife worked as a Respiratory Therapist for several years.  Then changed to being a Tuperware Manager.  She also worked as executive secretary to the Director of the Acholol and Drug abuse Counsel for the State of Louisiana.  Her last job was as a NAF trainer for new employees at Ramstine Air Force, Kiserslaten, Germany.  Alll of her job changes were due to my job changes and assignment with the US Army.  At the time she decided to quit work we didn't know she was positive for HD.

The earliest known diganoses was wife's uncle.   The wife's aunt.  Then wife's brother.  Then she tested positive for HD.  Then wife's sister.  At risk are as a group, wife, brother, sister, are 7 children and 6 grandchildren.  None of the at risk group has tested to date. 

Wife has walking problems, unsteady gait, some speach problems, and mild congnitive imparment.

Prozac, exercise, and Seroquel.
