Am I Exhibiting Symptoms?

For awhile now, at least a year as far as I can remember, when I try to fall asleep, I experience frequent twitching and involuntary movements of limbs, more specifically in my arms, hands, fingers, legs, ankles, toes and feet, and occasionally a jerking of the trunk of my body. I am very fearful that this could be related to my risk for HD. I would go to a doctor, obviously, and I want to get tested so I know for sure, but due to some recent circumstances, I don't have the resources to do either yet. Does what I'm describing sound like early symptoms?14 months ago
I am not gonna jump on a soapbox and declare, yes that's what it is. But your fears are justifiable. It is common, and you should take note of it, and write it down, things like how often, how severe, if it wakes you up, exactly what parts of your body it is affecting and discuss these things with a doctor as soon as you can. Getting tested is a scary thing and I hope you are able to soon. at least by knowing for sure, you will be able to take steps towards help.14 months ago
Does it only happen while you are trying to sleep? I would think that it would happen all the time for it to be symptoms. Your best bet would be to talk to your DR when you get the chance14 months ago
Ok, honestly people twitch as they are falling asleep whether they are at risk or have HD or not. My husband isn't at risk at all and he twitches in his sleep as you are describing. I have friends who are not at risk and that also happens to them, so I believe it's very common. HOWEVER, if you feel that it could be related to HD and you would feel better getting it checked out, then do so. Knowledge of what is going on with your body is very important. I know lately I have started worrying that I am developing symptoms because I've started having twitches throughout the day when I'm agitated--very subtle and only when I'm agitated or anxious, but still there (not sure if anyone else notices, they sure don't mention it!). Because of that, I'm thinking of going to my doctor just to see what they think about it to ease my mind. I just believe personally (and this is just an opinion) that twitches are very common and if you don't see them when you are awake as well, then it's most likely not related to the HD, just a common reaction of the body when falling asleep.14 months ago
Just want you to know that my husband and 2 daughters describe exactly the same symptoms you do when they are falling asleep. They all have restless leg syndrome and take medication prior to bed time to improve their sleep. Just telling you this because, what you are describing could be many things. I agree that if you are not having any of these symptoms during the day, it might be something else. The only way to know is to be tested. Please start with your own physician. My brother was unemployed and had no insurance when he was tested - we went to a HD clinic in SC. (we drive 2 hours to get there) There are options out there, it just takes some digging and researching them to find them. Fear can play havoc with our mind, I know I was there. Until I was tested, I imagined all sorts of things.14 months ago
