Is It Possible To Get Tested Next Month?

Here is my current situation: I'm from NY, and I was seeing a psychologist here, and she helped me set up and get to all the preliminary testing, the neurological exam, the interview, etc. They told me whenever I am ready to be tested to call and set up an appointment in advance. I was going to, and then some complications arose. I ended up traveling back and forth to Florida a few times to be with my girlfriend, and then she flew here, and we both drove back to FL and have been living there for the past 2 months. Now I'm back home for the holidays, I'll be home until December 19th, which is a few weeks time. I want to be tested, need to be, as my girlfriend and I are planning on starting a life together when I return, and knowing whether or not I have HD is important for me, so I know how much of a life together we can plan on having. Is it possible for me to get tested within these few weeks time? Or must it be scheduled months in advance? I really hope I can be tested NOW.

Hi Samuel, I don't know what the procedure is in America but there's a bunch of counselling that goes with testing here in Australia. I can't see why you can't have the bloodwork done now seeing as how you've already been through all the preliminary stuff, and then perhaps have the counselling before you deal with your results. It's a minefield, particularly since you have such a history with this monster. But regardless of the outcome, concentrate on all the good stuff they're doing with research right now....there IS a light at the end of the tunnell....and it's NOT a train! Keep the faith little brother, we're getting closer by the day....Jenny

Thank you for your words. Unfortunately, the light won't matter until we reach it, I pray it will be soon though. Also, here in America at least, we have a corrupt health care system and our government is rotten from the inside out, so in the event of having the disease, and needing treatment, relocation may be a necessity.

You can find a doctor to do the test for you, it will take about three weeks to get the results, just remember no matter how much time you have had to think about this there is nothing to really prepare you for those results. Look around a little and I'm sure you can find someone to do the test.
