Who else is hungry?

Just wondering how many others are dealing with the eating issues of HD? I know that not everyone develops the voracious appetite but my husband is eating me out of house and home. He makes a hundred cups of tea and coffee all day long with food of some description attached to all of them, as well as his main meals.  Are the majority affected this way? Is it because the metabolism is sped up to the point that they are feeling constantly hungry? I can't believe he can eat so much and still not put on any weight.

If you could narrow down that one component of HD and sell it.....wow, you'd have the world beating a path to your door!! I think I'd be first in line.....

Pretty common component of HD for many people. Researchers at one time looked into the metabolism of HDers as being very sped up. Lots of little chorea movements (tics) can use up calories too. Sweets? Lots of HDers crave sweets (maybe it's the brain's need for more carbs because it's working overtime). Maybe it's a little OCD--the need to eat all of the time--can you talk with your doctor about starting a SSRI (anti-depressant) that helps with OCD symptoms. OCD, bipolar, etc. all can present in HDers. Do you have a good neurologist or psychiatrist (MD) in your area to consult?13 months ago

HD patients have a diverse problems like - eating and swallowing problems, voracious appetite, tendency to try and eat quickly to satisfy urgent hunger , ineffecient chewing, spilling of food from the mouth , choking , aspiration .......

my mum would forget to eat and would go all day without eating. we had special drinks and yoghurts that were full of calories but we just couldn't get her to eat. she was so tiny and weak. she would sleep all the time.

Hiya, My Mum has not eaten in 4 days, she did this a while back where she did not want to eat.  We got her some special drinks from the doctor.  The only thing that keeps her going is her cups of tea, she has loads of them and she has 4 sugars in them!!!  Good job I spose!

I think she is scared of choking and sometimes she just kinda forgets.  She does not cook no more, as she can't but I will offer her stuff but she just says no.  Just really off food again at the mo so I'm gonna get down to the Doctors and get her some more drinks again.

I have notice that I'm hungry all the time as well. I think it is the med 's that the doctor has started me on. Lisann7654

I am obsessive about having something in my mouth all the time. I hadn't thought about it much until right now. When I'm not smoking I am drinking: coffee, tea, soda, water, etc. When I'm not smoking or drinking I am eating.
