WeAreHD.org - The Social Support Network for People Living with Huntington's Disease

The Huntington's gene has affected my father, brother, aunts and cousins over the past twenty-five years of my life. I have since lost two aunts, one cousin and currently dealing with my father and brothers conditions, as well as,  many cousins. Huntingtons didn't really become a fear for my immediate family until my father was tested in 1995 at the age of  51, he had shown no signs and our thoughts about the test were good. He tested positive and the worrying began. My father is currently in the latter stages of the disease and it is heart wrenching progression to have to endur. 

I am a happily married man of 11 years with a wonderful 7 year old daughter. Life for us has been great to this point, we have a great business, incredible friends and a very loving family. My wife and I just found out that we are having another baby. At first we were devastated because we had decided with the Huntington's gene a possibilty for me and my children, we were not going to have another child. Well God said yes you are, so here we are 6 weeks into it. I had mixed emotions still, but my brother-in-law made a comment that I will never forget. He said Mike, Naomi may be giving birth to the child who will find the Huntington's cure. Not only did I smile, I light  went off in my head, and I thought you know what forget  about worrying live your life for today and only for today.  This is the biggest reason I will not get tested..............WHY?

I am currently 37 soon to be 38 and have no signs of Huntington's.........
